An unwanted pregnancy can put a woman in a physical and mental state of emergency. Possibly alone and isolated, abused, raped or afraid of an honor killing, affected women find anonymous and confidential professional help in every situation in order to show ways out of despair together.
There are recognized pregnancy counseling centers in the Schwarzwald-Baar district that offer unprejudiced, cross-denominational counseling and work out solutions together with a pregnant woman. The counseling session is also about finding ways to live with the decision, no matter what it turns out to be. The decisions can be very different. ProKids was convinced that a baby hatch could save lives and therefore relied on this large individual project. On the initiative of the ProKids Foundation, the flap was installed in the Fanziskusheim at Neckarstraße 71 in the Schwenningen district. It is the first of its kind in the region. Even newborns should have a chance at life and for the future.
The Franziskusheim, a home for children and the elderly, is the right place for a baby hatch. As it is right on the through road, it is easy and quick to find and reach. The flap is in the side area, discretion is guaranteed here. The baby flap is equipped with the latest technology - as soon as it is actuated and closed again, a signal informs the nursing staff of the Franziskusheim, who are on duty around the clock. This ensures that a newborn placed in the flap is attended to immediately and at any time of the day. The room is well tempered and a cot is available. Since 2012, the lives of 5 newborns have been saved.
