"'The world lives on people who do more than their duty'. This sentence by the German actor Ewald Balser describes urgently and concisely at the same time that the prosperity of our society and the well-being of the people cannot be planned or decreed by the state, but must be supported and worked for by the people in society as a whole.

It describes very well that our common good, of which we can be very proud and which many countries in the world envy, results above all from the willingness of each individual not only to think of himself, but also to help others and at least to make a small individual contribution to the improvement of the local community.

No matter how small the voluntary commitment of an individual may appear, with a host of more than 24 million volunteering citizens, it quickly becomes clear what socio-political importance volunteering has outside of the family, business and public administration in Germany.

The former Federal President Joachim Gauck rightly stated that 'Our cities and communities would not be viable and probably not worth living in without those who sit on the district council or the city council on a voluntary basis, who found clubs and wrestle in meetings". the highest priority is civic engagement as the central cornerstone of a functioning society, our society.

A very central role is played by the social and solidary cooperation of people in today's world, which is often referred to as a 'meritocracy' and is characterized by stress and hectic. Mutual care is a living expression of Christian charity, which has been firmly anchored in our society for centuries.

The ProKids Foundation VS has also made this charity its task. It was founded in 2008 to enable socially disadvantaged children in Villingen-Schwenningen to have a proper meal at school. Since then, the team around Joachim Spitz has made sure with many projects, even more personal passion and a lot of sweat that disadvantaged children in Villingen-Schwenningen do not have to stand on the sidelines, are in the eyes of everyone, have better chances in life and thus also a bit of a happy childhood.

When Joachim Spitz asked me whether I would like to support the projects of the foundation with my political work, it was immediately clear to me that I would like to get involved with the foundation. Because every personal commitment to ProKids can be measured in concrete terms. Every minute invested is worth it. Working for ProKids makes a difference. This makes life better for many children. That's what matters to me. Even if not all children are the same and everyone has different talents, as a prosperous society we should afford that every child has a good start and good opportunities in life, regardless of the parents' wallet.

Everyone can make a contribution, even without investing a lot of money or time. That's why I would be very happy if you would support us in the future and also become part of ProKids.
