With great dedication, the organizers of the first Gamechanger Cup reached numerous children. The event in Schwenningen paved the way for them to participate in organized sports.

Dribbling, passing, goal celebrations – and just a few meters away, quick baskets and thrilling duels: At the first Gamechanger-Cup in the Schwenningen Deutenberg halls on Saturday, football and basketball belonged entirely to the children.

From the very first minute, it was clear that the players weren't just playing, but fighting with passion, laughing, and discovering. The energy on the field showed how much potential such actions hold – and how much they whetted the appetite for more.

The Gamechanger Cup in Schwenningen truly lived up to its name. It was far more than just a tournament during the Pentecost holidays – it became a social project with a tangible impact. The cup was organized byfrom the ProKids FoundationTogether with Fight for your Life, support came from the cooperating clubs Boxing VS, FSV Schwenningen, the Young Panthers, and other partners. Around 30 volunteers were on hand to make it a special day for the boys and girls.

ForOliver Vlcek from Fight for your LifeIt was clear from the start that this tournament should be more than just a sporting competition. "We wanted to create a tournament that wasn't just a day full of games, but something that would be a part of the lives of..."Children"It has really changed something," he said. The date during the Pentecost holidays was deliberately chosen: "There are many children here who can't go away. We wanted to reach exactly those children."

Small-sided games ensure many ball contacts.

The tournament was played in two age groups: U15 mixed and U13 mixed. In football, the teams competed in a four-a-side format with a goalkeeper, while in basketball, it was four-a-side. These smaller-sided games ensured plenty of ball contact, short distances between players, and a high level of participation – ideal for including children who aren't part of a club.

Initial registration attempts were slow. "We received hardly any feedback," Vlcek recalled. So the organizers decided on an unusual approach: "We went out – really out. We went to 96 football pitches in Villingen-Schwenningen and spoke to the children directly."

ProKids Foundation covers membership fees for one year

The effort was worthwhile. In the end, 95 boys and girls came, many of them without club affiliation. "The kids come in, have fun – and that's the biggest compliment," said Vlcek.

To ensure the day has lasting impact, the ProKids Foundation will cover the membership fee for a full year for every participating child who is not already a member of a sports club – regardless of whether they choose football, basketball, or another sport. "It was important to us that the cup be a starting point. If a child realizes here, 'Sport is good for me,' then they should have the opportunity to stick with it," explains Vlcek. The organizers actively support the young athletes in finding suitable clubs; they are already in contact with several families.

The boy shows exceptional talent.

Two scouts were also present – one from football, one from basketball. There was a surprise, especially in football: a boy who had never played in aAssociationHaving played and stood in goal "just for fun," he showed exceptional talent. "He stood there as if he'd always been doing it," Vlcek emphasized. Steps are now being taken to enable him to play for a club.

The organizers deliberately refrained from extensive advertising. "This wasn't meant to be an event for spectators. It was meant to be a day for the children," said Vlcek. Alongside the tournament, there was an open training session in the second hall to keep those not currently playing occupied. For many, the cup became a real highlight of the holidays.

Many children taken off the streets

The winning teams qualified for the Street Games, which will take place from June 18th to 21st at Deutenberg. Places are reserved, and participation is funded. "The kids are incredibly excited. Some have already asked if we'll hold the Gamechanger Cup again next year," Vlcek reported on the response to the premiere. He is certain: "We have fully achieved our goal. We reached many children, got many off the streets, and gave them something that will last."

Mayor Jürgen Roth was also present and was impressed by the commitment of the ProKids Foundation and the participating clubs. "People have come and are having a great time. A huge compliment to them," said the mayor. He and Jürgen Müller from the ProKids Foundation presented the awards – visibly with great pleasure.

Trophies in various age groups

In the U15 age group, the "Deutsche Pass" team emerged victorious in football. "Gitterfresse" came in second, and the "Streetballers" took third place. In the U13 category, the "Pilmeni" celebrated their tournament win, followed by "Que Pasa Loco" and the "Pumas." In basketball, the "Panthers U15" claimed the championship trophy. The "Young Panthers Mix" finished second, and "Die Lautlosen" took third place.

In 2008, Joachim Spitz took the initiative: With ProKids-VS, he began financing school meals for underprivileged children. His ProKids Foundation now comprises numerous wonderful projects that benefit underprivileged children in our region.

Since the baby hatch opened at St. Franziskusheim in 2010, five babies have been rescued and ultimately placed for adoption with loving families. "Every child should have a chance," says Joachim Spitz. His other projects, such as the annual Christmas wish campaign, which grants over 300 children a heartfelt wish worth up to €20, the homework support program at the ProKids meeting place, the teen mothers' shared apartment, and the ProKids street workout park in Villingen-Schwenningen, have become indispensable. All of this can be seen in the ProKids promotional video.

A personal thank you

A huge and heartfelt thank you to you, Joachim Spitz, personally, and to your family, for founding the ProKids Foundation!

Your big heart, your support (especially for single parents) with the (carefully and lovingly prepared) food parcels, proves to us that we are not “alone…”.

My 9-year-old son was very excited about so many edible gifts; and said that when he grows up and becomes a businessman, he will also do “something like this…”.

Your good deed will remain in your memory, imbued with warmth, for a lifetime to come!

We are very happy for the son that there are still such attentive, sensitive people like you, Joachim Spitz, in this country.

We wish you and your family strong Siberian health and much God's blessing, because with your big heart you truly deserve it!

Many warm greetings
Nataliya Baumann-Husar
