Children's eyes should shine again.
The ProKids Foundation is once again granting Christmas wishes and has received its largest donation since its founding from the Schwenningen-based company Diener Rapp. This is especially important during the pandemic.
When Santa Claus can't quite manage things as he should, someone has to step in. For many years, that's been the ProKids Foundation, whose Christmas wish campaign brings joy to children. Where even small Christmas wishes are too much for some budgets, they step in and provide gifts that bring great happiness to little ones.
The principle is quite simple: Children can draw their wish – a toy or item of clothing that shouldn't cost more than 20 euros – on a numbered wish card. These cards are then hung with others on "wishing trees" located at several sites in Villingen and Schwenningen. Anyone who takes a card buys the gift listed on it and then returns it to the place where they got the card.
200 cards designed
“It’s important to write the card number clearly on the gift,” explains Jürgen Müller, a member of the ProKids VS board of trustees. Only then can the present be easily assigned to the correct recipient. The current Christmas wish campaign, the twelfth in the series, primarily features children selected through the church-affiliated welfare organizations Caritas and Diakonie in Villingen and Schwenningen. They were given the opportunity to design 200 cards, which are displayed on wishing trees in the Volksbank branches in Schwenningen and Villingen. Additional wishing trees can be found at SBS Burger in Schönwald, the Sonnenklar travel agency, the senior citizens' residence at Germanswald, and the Villingen housing cooperative.
You can pick up a wish card anywhere here and make a child happy. Because the foundation has a lot of experience with this, the timing is well-coordinated. Now that the cards are ready, the gifts should be dropped off at the card distribution points by Friday, December 17th, where foundation staff will collect them. This ensures that every child's gift will be under the right Christmas tree on time for December 24th.
Poverty is increasing
ProKids focuses on ensuring that the gifts exclusively benefit children from disadvantaged families. As poverty increases in society, the need and demand for such social initiatives remains strong, explains foundation board member Jürgen Müller, assuring that every child who draws a wish will have it fulfilled.
Christmas gifts have a long tradition. Even if
While the Christian story is no longer always the central theme of gift-giving, gifts are still always associated with connection. "To find a suitable present, the giver needs to know the person at least a little," says Jürgen Müller. "With our cards, we compensate for the fact that you don't know the child receiving the gift; you know what they'll enjoy." This is guaranteed to work – ProKids has proven it hundreds of times over the past few years.
And so, before Christmas, it's usually up to Joachim Spitz, chairman of the board of trustees of the ProKids Foundation, to bring joy to others, for example with projects like the Christmas wish campaign for children. But this year, Spitz also feels richly blessed. He has just received the largest monetary donation since the foundation's inception.
The Schwenningen-based company Diener Rapp is supporting the foundation with a donation of €20,000. Spitz couldn't believe it when he realized the amount. Then came the joy. "I am very happy and also proud that my work for the ProKids Foundation is being recognized in this way," says the entrepreneur, who dedicates a large part of his time to volunteering for children in need.
With numerous successful local projects, he has already been able to help many children and young people. One success story, whose influence extends far beyond the city limits, is the foundation's baby hatch, which the Schwenningen resident initiated years ago. Four newborns have already been found there; ProKids has thus been able to save four young lives and also alleviate the suffering of children from predominantly disadvantaged families in other areas. For this, the foundation is more dependent than ever on the help of donors during the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the restrictions, it has had to forgo lucrative fundraising and sponsorship events since the outbreak of the pandemic, events that have been a major source of funding for its work in the past. "I am grateful for every donation, as our fundraising event planned for the spring cannot take place again, and we can therefore really use the money," says Joachim Spitz. "We are also noticing that the need for help is increasing during the pandemic."
This assessment is confirmed by studies such as the UNICEF report on the situation of children in Germany in 2021. The report, entitled "Children – Our Future!", warns of the serious consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic for children's well-being. The pandemic exacerbates existing problems and also presents parents with major challenges in providing the best possible support for their children. Often, however, these challenges prove too great because reduced working hours or unemployment worsen the already precarious situation of families. In such cases, external help is needed. The ProKids Foundation is actively involved in providing this support in the region.
The money comes at just the right time.
The generous donation from Diener Rapp comes at just the right time. This record donation gives the foundation more flexibility at precisely the right moment to continue providing assistance where it is needed. Peter Rapp and Karin Engler-Rapp didn't hesitate to sign the substantial donation check because they are absolutely convinced of the foundation's valuable work. Their children, Managing Director Daniel Miklosch, and the entire team at the anodizing plant fully support the donation and are delighted that the money will give the ProKids Foundation a boost during these challenging times. Diener Rapp has over 40 years of experience in aluminum finishing and is therefore in high demand. The company's business involves refining the surfaces of aluminum workpieces with a hard, corrosion-resistant layer using an electrochemical process; this is called "anodizing." This requires considerable expertise, as does chromating, where a soft, conductive layer is applied to aluminum products.
Successful financial year
Customers include companies from industry and trade, including sectors such as mechanical engineering, precision engineering, medical technology, the furniture industry, and automotive suppliers. Such a large donation was made possible because Diener Rapp had a very successful fiscal year and explicitly decided to forgo Christmas gifts for clients.

The ProKids Foundation supports children in a variety of ways – from playgroups and clothing banks to school meals and the integration project "Fight For Your Life". BW-Bank Villingen-Schwenningen is supporting this initiative with a donation of 3000 euros.
“From the region, for the region,” that’s the basic idea, explains BW-Banker Anatoli Rutz, responsible for private banking in Villingen-Schwenningen. “That’s why we are very happy to support ProKids in its social commitment. In all its activities, the foundation keeps a close eye on the social needs here in the region and responds with excellent projects and initiatives.”
Together with Markus Thoma, Head of Private Banking, and Patrick Greuter, Head of Corporate Clients, Rutz presented the donation check to Joachim Spitz, Managing Director of the ProKids Foundation. Each member of the management trio contributed to the St. Nicholas Day donation. In addition, a further portion comes from the BW-Bank's premium savings program, bringing the total donation to ProKids from this fund to 3,000 euros.
BW-Bank has a long-standing partnership with ProKids and has provided financial support to the foundation on several occasions. For example, a few years ago, this support enabled the realization of the "Workout Park" in Villingen-Schwenningen. The fitness equipment is popular with young and old alike.
PS savers participate in a monthly draw as well as an annual special draw. 25 percent of the draw fund is not distributed but goes to social causes. Last year, the BW Bank premium savings program raised approximately €248,000 for charitable projects.

July 24, 2021 – History comes to the classroom – NQ
History: The ProKids Foundation is producing a film about Schwenningen's past. A public premiere will take place in November, and the DVD is intended to serve as learning material for students.
But then, one last shoot at Orca, and all the sequences were in the can. For two years, the film service provider Aromadeck filmed in Schwenningen on behalf of the ProKids Foundation. The result is a city portrait that depicts the district's eventful industrial history in the here and now. Fittingly, the camera crew began their work on July 6, 2019, when Schwenningen celebrated the 200th birthday of its industrial pioneer Johannes Bürk – the man who was instrumental in bringing the town to the railway network.
and thus triggered the economic boom during the Gründerzeit (founding era) 150 years ago. Behind the film project is Joachim Spitz, chairman of the foundation's board and driving force behind ProKids. He wants to contribute to the historical education of elementary school students. "I want to bring Schwenningen's history into the classrooms," he says. The target group is 12- to 15-year-olds. The idea came to him when he read in the newspaper that, for fire safety reasons, the Schwenningen local history museum could only be visited in small groups.
It got me thinking.
This got him thinking and eventually led him to the idea of producing a film about the past that could be distributed free of charge to schools and used in lessons. Because history is also, to some extent, a part of our identity, which we lose when the number of eyewitnesses dwindles.
Joachim Spitz found a receptive audience in the mayor; Jürgen Roth approved of the project and secured municipal support through the freelance cultural studies scholar Dr. Sabine Dietzig-Schicht. She oversaw the film project on behalf of the municipality and participated in numerous meetings with local history experts, who also contributed their knowledge – most notably Dr. Annemarie Conradt-Mach and Siegfried Heinzmann from the Schwenningen Local History Society.
"I would like Schwenningen History into classroom bring."
And of course, Dr. Michael Hütt, the director of the Clock Industry Museum, was also at the table. City guide Michael Kopp also contributed to the historical city portrait, which consists of two 35-minute parts. He expertly recounts the founding era and what happened in Schwenningen during that time.
The bathhouse of the Kienzle villa, which factory owner Jakob Kienzle had built for his daughters around 100 years ago, serves as one of the backdrops for a Kopp interview. Joachim Spitz is enthusiastic: "Although I'm a native of Schwenningen, there was much I didn't know that Michael Kopp talks about in the film."
The film is being pressed onto DVD.
The filmmakers from Aromadeck are currently reviewing the footage and adding final sequences. The film will then be edited over the summer. Selected scenes from the production will also be used for a promotional video that the city of Schwenningen plans to publish online. This was a particular priority for the mayor. The main film, however, will not be available online. It will be pressed onto DVD and later distributed to interested residents of Schwenningen in exchange for a donation – schools will receive the DVDs free of charge. A public premiere is scheduled for mid-November, either at the Capitol or the Neckar Hall – with NECKARQUELLE as the media partner. Before the film is shown on the big screen, there will be a panel discussion with those involved: Mayor Jürgen Roth, Joachim Spitz, Siegfried Heinzmann, and Michael Kopp will discuss the development of the industrial city of Schwenningen.

On July 6, 2019, the NECKARQUELLE, among others, celebrated Schwenningen's connection to the railway network and thus the beginning of industrialization with a ride on a historic steam train. Filming also began that day for the ProKids Foundation's film about recent local history in Schwenningen.

March 10, 2021 – Press release from the ProKids Foundation
Thank you again for your support of the ProKids Foundation's aid package campaign.
The distribution is now running smoothly, handled in Schwenningen by the Schwenningen local association and in Villingen by the Villingen local association. It is coordinated by the SBK rescue service management.
We have now distributed 400 aid packages, each calculated to feed a family of four for 14 days. These were donated by my fellow founders, so the money doesn't have to be taken from the foundation's regular funds. Thank you for that. Some of the packages also include baby food. Another 200 packages have now been packed and will be made available later this week.
We also deliver individual packages if people are not mobile for whatever reason.
Unfortunately, the campaign was shamelessly exploited. This made me quite sad and angry, as the requirements were clearly communicated. Some people were rude, unreasonable, and insolent. Therefore, we took action.
No social welfare recipients, no recipients of unemployment benefits, and no recipients of housing allowance. We want to help exclusively families and single parents who have fallen into hardship due to the coronavirus.
For example, bus drivers who haven't been allowed to drive for six months, restaurant staff who haven't been allowed to work since November, and all those who are on reduced hours or have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus. Of course, reduced hours compensation doesn't count as government aid.
We are not trying to relieve the state of some of its burden here, but rather to provide unbureaucratic help.
Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple. Those affected must now register by email atinfo@prokids-stiftung.dePlease report this, and then a decision will be made as to whether you belong to the group of people we want to address or not.
The new pick-up times will be mentioned in the confirmation email from us.
The names are then forwarded to the German Red Cross so that the staff there know exactly who is eligible. Without this procedure, NO aid packages will be distributed.
We will send away everyone who has not received a confirmation email. It makes me very sad, but there is no other way to handle it.
I ask you once again to support us and take this with you.
Many many thanks.
Stay healthy!
Best regards
Joachim Spitz

Aid packages regarding changed opening hours
The ProKids Foundation's food parcel campaign for families and single parents who have fallen into hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic has been a resounding success. Since mid-February, families in need have been able to pick up free food parcels from the foundation at the Red Cross offices in Villingen and Schwenningen.
With additional funds, provided entirely by the co-founders and therefore not burdening the foundation's coffers, ProKids assembled 500 care packages in mid-February, designed to meet the needs of a family for two weeks. These packages include an assortment for families with babies and toddlers and an assortment containing food for families with older children. The offer has been met with a tremendous response – at the German Red Cross (DRK) locations in Villingen and Schwenningen, approximately 100 packages were collected at each location within the first two weeks. "That's 20 packages per working day," says a delighted Joachim Spitz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The co-founders and the patron of the initiative, Mayor Jürgen Roth, are also thrilled with the unexpectedly positive response.
“Families struggling due to the coronavirus should not hesitate. Those who are on the losing side should also receive help. There is no shame in accepting help in a difficult situation that is not your fault,” Spitz appealed to the target group at the launch of the initiative. Parents affected by reduced working hours or unemployment as a result of the pandemic are to be specifically relieved of this difficult situation through the packages. This will be done efficiently and without bureaucracy; recipients of Hartz IV (unemployment benefits) and housing allowance will not be supported. Therefore, the packages will be delivered anonymously via the German Red Cross (DRK). Organized by the DRK district association for the SBK (presumably a local organization), the package will be distributed by the ambulance service. Those wishing to collect a package can simply go to the DRK buildings in Villingen and Schwenningen. However, the Red Cross has changed its opening hours effective immediately.
Now the families can each receive their package
Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 2 pm and 5 pm
pick up.
Joachim Spitz clarifies that the package collection doesn't have to be a one-time event. "Families and single parents who are experiencing financial hardship due to the coronavirus are welcome to return and, of course, collect another package after two weeks – for as long as their financial difficulties persist." The package collection initiative complements the hot school meals that the foundation has always funded for children from needy families. "The number of families in need has increased significantly over the course of the pandemic," says Joachim Spitz.
This has exacerbated the situation. Families with a single breadwinner, in particular, are quickly reaching their limits with continued income losses and unchanged living expenses. "We can provide up to 800 food parcels," says the foundation's director. "It's important to us that word of our assistance spreads further. Neighbors and acquaintances should talk about it so that the message reaches those who truly need it."
ProKids is referring not to recipients already receiving public assistance, but to families and single parents who otherwise support themselves. Currently, this is only verified through random checks at package drop-off points.
Info: The ProKids aid packages are available at the German Red Cross (DRK) rescue station in Schwenningen, Alleenstraße 3, and at the local branch office in Villingen, Benediktinerring 9. Those who are not mobile and live far from a DRK station, for example in a rural district, can have an aid package delivered. Interested parties can send an email to info@prokids-stiftung.de.

With the additional Money Initially, 500 care packages will be assembled, designed to meet the needs of a family for two weeks. These will include an assortment for families with babies and toddlers, and an assortment with food for families with older children. Childrenn.
Donors help
The foundation reports that the initiative has also garnered further support through donations. The E-Center Culinara in Schwenningen is packing the parcels and providing the foundation with the groceries at a special price; Steffen Würth, Managing Director of Straub-Verpackungen GmbH, is supplying the packaging boxes; Univent-Medical GmbH is including free FFP2 masks with every parcel; and the Zeisberg Corse car dealership is donating the majority of a car, which will be used to deliver the parcels to families without transportation. "It's wonderful to see the tremendous support the ProKids Foundation is receiving once again as it launches a new project," Joachim Spitz enthused gratefully.
Since its founding, the foundation has been paying for hot school meals for children from low-income families. This service has always been very well received in the twin cities. The package campaign is intended as a supplement; ProKids assumes that the number of families in need has increased significantly during the coronavirus pandemic. Unpaid electricity bills, rent arrears, a broken refrigerator or washing machine – the list of reasons why families are under pressure in the current situation with reduced income is long.
This is precisely where ProKids VS comes in, providing quick, efficient, and above all, unbureaucratic assistance. The situation has become particularly acute during the lockdown, when schools are also closed – children in need can no longer benefit from the foundation-funded school meals, and money at home is even tighter than usual. Joachim Spitz knows that for some who are used to making ends meet, it might not be easy to access this new support service. But he says: "Families who are struggling due to the pandemic shouldn't hesitate. Those who are on the losing side should also receive help. There's no shame in accepting help in a difficult situation that isn't your fault."
Collection from the German Red Cross
He hopes that word of the foundation's offer will spread and appeals to people's sense of honor, urging them not to abuse the service and that only those who truly need it should use it. Only then, he says, can it be done in a truly unbureaucratic way. "It's important to tell others about it, neighbors or acquaintances, so that they too can get help." However, the foundation emphasizes: "Recipients of Hartz IV (unemployment benefits) and housing allowance are not supported; they already receive assistance through the social welfare program."
The organizers and the patron of the initiative, Mayor Jürgen Roth, felt it was important to lower the barrier to entry for those picking up the packages as much as possible. Therefore, recipients can easily collect the food parcels from the Red Cross in Villingen and Schwenningen. "Our offer is not aimed at families who are already receiving government assistance," emphasizes Joachim Spitz. However, this will not be verified; the distribution of the packages is based on good faith.
The packages will be available from Wednesday, February 17th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the German Red Cross (DRK) rescue station in Schwenningen (garage) at Alleenstraße 3, and at the local branch building in Villingen (lecture hall) at Benediktinerring 9. The ProKids Foundation also wants to provide assistance to people who are not mobile and live far from a DRK station, for example, in a rural district. They can also be delivered with a relief package if needed. "This is the case, for example, if it is a mother without a car and with very young children whom she cannot leave alone," says Joachim Spitz. In this case, interested parties can send an email to info@prokids-stiftung.de and request home delivery.
